What is a Christian?
The name Christian was first given to the disciples in Antioch (Acts 11:26).  This term, Christian, is used only 3 times in the Bible; Twice in Acts and also in I Peter 4:16.  We've all heard of "born again" Christians, many of us even call ourselves Christians, but what does it mean to be a Christian?
The word Christian is translated from the Greek word
Christianos meaning follower of Christ.  To become a Christian you must follow the first five steps of the Plan of Salvation, but to remain a Christian the final step is the most important.  This lifelong commitment to Christ is the key to being a Christian and the only way to enter the Kingdom of God.
Contrary to what many believe, salvation can be lost.  In Luke 9:62 Jesus says that "No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."  One who goes back to their old ways after accepting Christ is no longer in Christ and is therefore not a Christian.  This doesn't mean that Christians are perfect by any means. It does, however, mean that someone who forsakes his salvation and returns to sin without repentance of his sins will become lost.  As Christians we have the promise that our sins will be forgiven if we would ask forgivenss of these sins with a truly repentant heart (I John 2:1).
Being a Christian is so much more than going to church on Sundays and saying quick prayers before mealtimes.  It is the lifestyle of a Christian that sets them apart from everyone else.  You see, Christians have the perfect role model--Jesus.  It is His spirit--The Holy Spirit-- that lives inside of Christians and helps them to lead the lives they are supposed to lead.  In I Corinthians 3:16 Paul told his brothers in Christ, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's spirit lives in you?"  Isn't this an awesome thought?  God lives inside of those who have accepted him!
A Christian strives to do God's will.  A Christian loves the people of this world like Christ does and tries to save them from their sins.  A Christian loves God's creations and takes care of the things that He has given us.  Most of all a Christian loves God and puts Him before all things of this world.
